Fired Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau helps at Celtics practice after eliminating Boston from playoffs
The Boston Celtics got some tips Monday at practice from an unlikely source in Tom Thibodeau, who helped eliminate them from the playoffs last season before he was fired as head coach of the New York Knicks.
Thibodeau led the Knicks to an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals, but was fired after New York was swept in four games by the Indiana Pacers.
On Monday, he was at Celtics practice as a guest of head coach Joe Mazzulla.
"He's obviously been one of the best coaches around for a long time. Worked here. Won a championship here. Just having him around makes me better, makes our organization better, so there's a lot of respect for him," Mazzulla said.

What Mikal Bridges thinks about Tom Thibodeau sharing Knicks secrets during Celtics visit
Mikal Bridges, at least publicly, didnât mind his former coach sharing the Knicksâ secrets.
Tom Thibodeau, whom the Knicks fired after last season, was at Celtics practice Tuesday.
Heâs bounced around practices for a number of teams since being fired.
Celtics star Jaylen Brown said that Thibodeau explained âsome of the things that he saw that helped [the Knicks] beat usâ in the conference semifinals last season.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla clarified on Tuesday that bringing Thibodeau in wasnât specifically about the Knicks.
âI think itâs more about, heâs been a friend for me for a long time,â Mazzulla said. âHe coached here, he won a championship here. His presence is more about coming to learn the game and paying respect to a coach that has been here for a long time and has been in this organization and hung a banner here. Anything we can learn from him.âIt just so happened that he happened to be the coach that knocked us out of the playoffs the year before. There wasnât that much there, from that standpoint.â
