Movie and TV Comedy Actor Dies After Cancer Recurrence: Patrick Murray Was 68

Patrick Murray, a British actor best known for starring as Mickey Pearce on the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses, passed away last month following his on-and-off battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.
According to The Guardian, Murray died on Sept. 29. He first revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and had a tumor removed from his lung. The following year, he shared that his doctor told him his lung cancer was “cured” and the tumor in his liver was “shrinking.”
However, in 2023, Murray announced his cancer had returned. “I kept this under my hat that they’d discovered another primary cancer last year,” he explained at the time.
Sitcom Actor Patrick Murray Has Died
The actor, best known for playing the trilby-wearing Mickey Peace in the sitcom Only Fools and Horses, passed away late last month in Kent, England from complications of lung cancer.
The BBC released a statement on his death, saying “We are very sad to hear of the passing of Patrick Murray, much loved for his role as Mickey in Only Fools And Horses, our thoughts are with his friends and family.”
He starred in Only Fools and Horses from 1983 to 2003, where his character became a fan favorite for his distinctive hat and goofy behavior.
In 2021, he revealed that he was diagnosed with lung cancer and that he also had a tumor in his liver. A subsequent surgery removed half of his liver. In 2022, he said that his oncologist told him that his “lung cancer was cured and that the tumour in my liver was shrinking,” but the cancer returned and spread in April 2023.

Only Fools And Horses star Patrick Murray has died at the age of 68.
Murray played Mickey Pearce, a friend to Sir David Jason's Del Boy and Nicholas Lyndhurst's Rodney Trotter, across 20 episodes between 1983 and 2003 on the BBC comedy series.
He also had roles in 1979 films Quadrophenia and Scum, 1990s TV sitcom The Upper Hand, as well as The Bill, ITV Playhouse and Bergerac.
Only Fools And Horses co-star Sue Holderness, who played Marlene in the sitcom, paid tribute to Murray on X, saying: "R.I.P. darling Patrick. Much love. You will be greatly missed."
Murray revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in July 2021 and had an operation to remove a lung tumour in its early stages, followed by chemotherapy, in January 2022.
