Tesla's stock jumps 5% after teaser video sparks speculation of Roadster or mass market model

Tesla shares rose more than 5% on Monday after the electric vehicle maker posted a teaser video on X sparking speculation that the company could be gearing up to release a new car.

The first video posted on Sunday shows a spinning component which many online said could be an internal component of a vehicle. The video ends with the numbers "10/7," indicating Tuesday's date.

A second video also posted on Sunday shows just the headlights of a car.

The teasers have sparked conversation online and among analysts about what Tesla is up to — and two theories have emerged.

The first is that it could be the next-generation Roadster vehicle that Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been promising for years.

Tesla stock jumps after X posts tease product launch

Shares in Elon Musk's Tesla (TSLA) jumped in Monday trading after the electric vehicle maker published a series of cryptic posts on X on Sunday hinting at a new product unveiling.

Tesla shares gained more than 5.4% by the closing bell on Monday after the EV maker posted gifs on Sunday of a spinning company logo with the date "10/7" and of what appears to be car headlights shining through smoke.

If the company does indeed unveil a new product on Tuesday, it will be the first major product announcement since October 2024, when Telsa unveiled its self-driving "Robotaxi."

Though there's no clarity over what the posts on Sunday might be hinting at, Tesla chief Musk posted on X in mid-September, "The new Roadster is something special beyond a car," responding to a user who posted a mock promotional video of a second-generation Roadster. The vehicle was initially unveiled in 2017 but has yet to come to market.
