There is nothing more obvious than the vibe of this team versus last year's team. I know you don't believe it's all about the coaching, but when I watch this team I see enthusiasm. When I watched last year's team, I saw apathy and lack of interest. The plays called and playing guys in their best position has made a huge difference.
I think Jaguars Head Coach Liam Coen is showing himself to be a much better head coach more quickly than I anticipated. I expected he would be a high-end play-caller immediately. He coaches the run exceptionally well and that has made a huge difference for this franchise. What I didn't know entering the season was how well he would connect with players. He has shown to be a high-end leader with a real connection to players. Those are the most important traits for a head coach, and it's hard to know that about any head coach until the regular season begins. He is very impressive – and the more I watch him, the more I expect him to be a very successful NFL head coach for a long time. I long have said that the most important aspect of head coaching is how much your team believes in you. This is infinitely more important than in-game decisions, play-calling or anything associated with game-planning. Coen from this view seems really good at the in-game play-calling and game-planning stuff. But it's absolutely his leadership that from this view has had the greatest and most obvious impact on the Jaguars' turnaround. It's impressive. Very, very impressive.
How Liam Coen has revived the Jaguars' run game, Travis Etienne Jr.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Robert Hainsey saw it happen in 2024 in Tampa Bay — and he's seeing it again in Jacksonville now.
In his lone season as the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator, Liam Coen took Tampa Bay's run game from last in the league to fourth — which is the same spot at which the Jaguars' run game sits four games into Coen's tenure.
"I watched it in Tampa make a huge difference," said Hainsey, a backup center with the Bucs who signed a free agent contract to be the starter in Jacksonville in part to play in Coen's offense again. "When we're playing well with our technique and fundamentals, and Liam's calling it well, [the run game] is really hard to stop, and we haven't reached the level that we're capable of yet, which is exciting."

Travis Etienne is proving Liam Coen was the right hire for Jaguars
When a team hires an offensive-minded head coach, they are looking to improve specific areas. This may include creativity in play calling. It is sometimes a focus on elevating the quarterback and the passing attack. But for the Jacksonville Jaguars, they have quickly improved as a rushing offense with the new designs of head coach Liam Coen.
The Jaguars ranked 4th in rushing yards and 6th in yards per rush attempt entering Week 5. It has included a bit of a resurgence for Travis Etienne. Etienne had struggled to ever get rolling last year, but in the early stages of 2025, he has been among the best running backs across the league.
