WHAT TO EXPECT: Fall storm to soak AZ with rain, flooding risk this weekend

Big changes are on the way to Arizona as our next fall storm moves in.

This storm will bring two rounds of rain to Arizona, one on Friday and one on Sunday.

A few storms on Friday could turn strong to severe, mainly across southern and central Arizona. Damaging winds and hail are the main threats through early evening.

Flood Watches are in effect Friday and late Saturday night through Sunday for much of Arizona, including the Valley.

Thankfully, it looks like Saturday will be a bit of a lull in between those rounds of rain. Early trick-or-treaters should stay mostly dry. Rain chances climb through the evening, so keep the rain gear handy if you’re out late.

Arizona weather forecast: Phoenix braces for severe storms and flash flood threat

Two rounds of wet weather will impact Arizona with heavy rain and storms through Sunday.

PHOENIX – Thursday was a cloudier but mild day in the desert, with a high of 85 degrees in Phoenix. Temperatures warmed back into the 60s and 70s in the high country. Skies will stay dry but mostly cloudy overnight, and temperatures will stay a few degrees warmer, with a low of 66 in Phoenix.

Most of the state will wake up to dry, mostly cloudy skies. A few showers and thunderstorms will build into northwest Arizona during the morning commute. As the morning goes on, more storms will develop across western Arizona, moving eastward. Phoenix is likely to see storms arrive by late morning and midday. Storms will track across the high country and Phoenix throughout the afternoon, and into the White Mountains by the evening. The evening will be drier, but the chance of storms remains into the overnight hours.

When to expect showers and thunderstorms across the Phoenix area this weekend

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — One strong storm system moving into the Pacific Northwest is going to give us at least two waves of potentially heavy precipitation.

While we are not forecasting the type of severe weather we had last week, complete with confirmed tornado touchdowns, we are focusing on the chance for flash flooding across the state.

A Flash Flood Watch is out for metro Phoenix, and much of the state will be under flood risk by Sunday. For the Valley, 1-2” of rain is likely through Sunday.

The first wave is due Friday morning and will persist through much of the day. Expect showers and thunderstorms with locally heavy rain. A severe storm is not out of the question.
