Salt Lake City’s massive downtown sports district gets its big reveal. Take a look.

Smith Entertainment Group released renderings of its downtown sports, entertainment, culture and convention complex Wednesday.

Demolition is scheduled to begin in February, with work continuing into March. The project will be completed before the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

These renderings offer the best look yet at what’s to come for the district.

The new district will allow for a pedestrian walkway from City Creek Center to a new east-facing entrance at the Delta Center.

“We’re creating a walkway all the way through, and a paseo that connects the culture, convention, and sports and entertainment, all together with a central gathering place where families and people can come, experience local food, experience iconic brands, and really have a cool place to go,” Ryan Smith, head of SEG, said in a video on X, previously Twitter.

New downtown Salt Lake entertainment district plans raise hopes, questions in Japantown

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — Smith Entertainment Group has released its first renderings for a sweeping, three-block downtown entertainment district, promising new housing, shops, offices, hotels and pedestrian connections between the Delta Center and City Creek.

For the historic remnants of Japantown just west of the Salt Palace, the plans bring both opportunity and questions about what comes next.

The project is part of the broader Sports, Entertainment, Culture and Convention District planned around the Delta Center and Salt Palace.

Renderings show a reoriented Delta Center entrance, a central pedestrian walkway, new retail and office space, a hotel, a 6,000-seat Live Nation music venue and changes to the Salt Palace convention center. Plans also call for updates to Abravanel Hall and a new art museum.

After years of waiting, the Smith Entertainment Group has released details of its new entertainment district coupled with new renderings and information on the upcoming Salt Palace Convention Center rebuild. Overhauling the convention center and developing the entertainment district was largely made possible by the roughly $1.2 billion in taxpayer funds set aside for the project.

Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz and Utah Mammoth, released a nearly five-minute video detailing the upcoming project, which will include a new eastern facade and entrance for the Delta Center, as well as a large hotel, multiple retail locations, office space and residential elements, the video shows.
