Guardians swap in Cecconi for Schneemann, bolstering staff for ALCS

ST. PETERSBURG — The Guardians set their 26-man roster for the American League Championship Series ahead of Monday night’s Game 1 against the Rays, adding right-hander Slade Cecconi to the mix and dropping utility man Daniel Schneemann.

The Guardians went with 14 position players and 12 pitchers in their five-game AL Division Series win over the White Sox. In the best-of-seven ALCS, Cleveland opted for additional coverage on a pitching staff that wore a heavy workload in the first round.

“Having that 13th pitcher was really important to us,” manager Stephen Vogt said.

The Guards just played three games over the span of four days in the ALDS against the White Sox. Cleveland used seven pitchers, including opener Daniel Espino, in its 9-3 win over Chicago on Wednesday. It used eight in a 9-5 win in Game 4 on Thursday, when Parker Messick threw 65 pitches over an abbreviated 2 1/3-inning start.

Tampa Bay Rays ALCS roster finalized

The rosters are out for the American League Championship Series between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians.

The Rays look to keep the good times rolling after sweeping the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series as they’ve kept the group of 26 players mostly the same. In fact, the Rays only made one change and that was to add their top pitching prospect, Brody Hopkins, to the active roster and dropped LHP Garrett Cleavinger.

Brody Hopkins has the arsenal of a sure fire 100% first ballot Hall of Famer but the command of someone that could only enter Coopertown with a paid admission ticket. The 24-year former 6th round draft pick is still relatively new to being a full-time pitcher as he didn’t fully make the conversion until he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in 2023. The Rays acquired him a year later as part of the return for Randy Arozarena and quickly looked like they had pilfered another team in a deal as Hopkins quickly developed into one of the top starting pitching prospects in baseball.
