Should Bryan Hudson start at center for the Giants over John Michael Schmitz?
Bryan Hudson started in Week 4 — did he do enough to keep the job?
The New York Giants started Bryan Hudson at center in their 36-24 Week 4 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Incumbent starter John Michael Schmitz had a newborn and missed practices on Friday and Saturday. After the game, head coach John Harbaugh said the Giants were trying to get Hudson on the field, and it made sense to start him given the circumstances.
Harbaugh said he likes both centers and did not insinuate that Hudson would be the starter moving forward. Hudson’s play suggests there should be a serious conversation about that.
Bryan Hudson gives Giants every reason to rethink John Michael Schmitz
Congratulations to New York Giants center John Michael Schmitz on welcoming a newborn into the world last week. The 27-year-old wound up missing a couple of days of practice because of it, so when Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals rolled around, head coach John Harbaugh opted to start Bryan Hudson at center instead.
Hudson had been practicing well enough for Harbs to seriously consider working him in already, and with JMS missing practice time before the game, the coaching staff felt like the change made sense given the circumstances. It also gave Hudson his first NFL start.
The Giants came away with a 36-24 win, and Hudson did just about everything he could to make Harbaugh’s decision at center a little more complicated moving forward.
