Antonacci fell on purpose, and the White Sox have been rising ever since
CLEVELAND — As the White Sox undisputed sparkplug and offensive catalyst during their surprising run to the AL Division Series, Sam Antonacci knows when he needs to fire his teammates up and when to keep them loose.
So when he sensed his teammates were a bit tense ahead of Game 1 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Astros, he purposely tripped going up the dugout steps during introductions to keep things light. And when he reached on a walk to open the game, he smacked his helmet wildly to get his teammates going.
Antonacci will look to bring that same energy and distinctive style to the AL Division Series against the division-rival Guardians that begins on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at Progressive Field.
White Sox’s Sam Antonacci Fell Up Dugout Steps On Purpose
The Chicago White Sox were in unfamiliar territory on Tuesday, at least in their recent past.
They were taking the field for a playoff baseball game, and with that came the pregame introductions when teams line up along the foul lines and are announced to the crowd.
Usually, that’s tradition and pageantry that goes off without incident.
This time, though, White Sox youngster Sam Antonacci tripped and fell while going up the dugout stairs to take the field.
It looked like an odd accident, and maybe a case of nerves.
Instead, it turns out it was Antonacci trying to set a good tone (and earn some cash).
