Skeet Ulrich Reveals He Watched ‘Scream’ Only 3 Times, Weighs In on Possible Franchise Return
Thirty years after bringing Billy Loomis to life in the original Scream, Skeet Ulrich reflected on watching the movie only three times — and explained why he likely won’t return to the franchise in the future.
“Matthew Lillard and I did a live commentary while watching [the original Scream], and I think that’s only the third time I’ve seen it,” Ulrich, 56, exclusively told Us at Angry Orchard’s Video pop-up experience in honor of the brand’s limited-edition Thriller Variety Pack, which is inspired by Scream.
Ulrich said it had been “a long time” prior to his rewatch with Lillard, 56, adding, “It held up. We were laughing at ourselves.”

Skeet Ulrich, who starred in 1996’s “Scream” as Billy Loomis and later reprised the role in both 2022’s “Scream” and 2023’s “Scream VI,” has opened up about not being able to complete what he calls his “three-film arc” after his co-star, Melissa Barrera, was fired from the franchise.
Speaking with US Weekly, Ulrich explained that he doesn’t see himself returning to the franchise because “without Melissa Barrera and Sam Loomis, there’s no Billy Loomis.” (Barrera played Sam Carpenter, who was revealed to be Loomis’ daughter.) “He was in her head. They had their chance at it and didn’t quite get to complete the three-film arc that they talked to me about.”

Skeet Ulrich was supposed to have a three-film arc in the Scream franchise, but that all changed when Melissa Barrera was fired over her pro-Palestine views.
Ulrich, who was one of the OG Ghostfaces in the thriller, reprised his role in the fifth and sixth installments as a hallucination to his daughter, Sam Loomis, played by Barrera. When Barrera was dropped from Scream 7, the film was retooled and did so without Ulrich and Barrera’s characters.
