Delta officials said Monday that the three passengers had been discharged from the hospital. Two flight crew members also sought medical attention when the plane landed, officials said.
Officials said the airline is working to help the 283 passengers on board the flight reach their final destination.
âDelta flight 251 from Barcelona to Boston diverted to Porto, Portugal following a reported mechanical issue,â Delta spokesperson Grant Myatt said in a statement. âThe flight landed safely, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels as we work to get them to Boston as safely and quickly as possible.â

A Delta Air Lines jet made an emergency landing at Porto airport in Portugal on Sunday after smoke was detected in the cabin, and four passengers were treated at the hospital, the civil protection service said.
The jet was on a flight from Barcelona to Boston with 296 passengers when it was diverted, according to media reports.
The civil protection service said 14 passengers needed help after the plane landed safely at the airport in northern Portugal. Eight passengers who were on the Airbus A330 were treated on the tarmac at the airport, a spokesperson for the civil protection authority told Reuters.
