3 seen climbing out of sewer on Upper East Side, NYPD says
UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) — Three unidentified people were seen climbing out of a sewer on Manhattan's Upper East Side before fleeing in two vehicles early Wednesday morning.
Police said officers responded to a 911 call about a possible crime around 4:35 a.m. near 535 Park Ave. at East 61st Street. When officers arrived, they learned three individuals had exited a sewer and left the area, traveling northbound on Park Avenue.
The incident was captured on an NYPD surveillance camera, authorities said.
One vehicle was described as a silver sedan and the second was described as a four-door vehicle driven by a man wearing a black shirt and gray shorts.

Security cameras near a New York City hotel where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was planning to stay captured three men emerging from sewers before dawn Wednesday, police said.
The appearance by the mysterious scavengers does not appear to be connected to Netanyahu or the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in Manhattan.
“We have seen a number of incidents over the past few months of individuals going into the sewer system to look for valuables and other scrap metal after a storm,” New York police said in a statement.
“This incident fits that same criteria, but out of an abundance of caution given the U.N. General Assembly and the sensitivity of the location, the NYPD is conducting additional security sweeps with our federal partners,” the police department said.
