White Sox Extension Talks With Munetaka Murakami May Have Hit a Wall
A couple of months ago, White Sox fans were clamoring for updates about a possible Munetaka Murakami extension.
The Japanese slugger was playing like baseball's best free-agent signing. Even with a lengthy stint on the IL, it was impossible not to get excited about his shockingly easy transition to life in the Majors. While his batting average may not have been sky-high, he was smashing homers with ease and drawing walks at an elite rate. To say that he was a significant part of the White Sox' breakout would be an understatement.
Even GM Chris Getz couldn't simply give the politically correct answer when asked about having Murakami in Chicago long-term in late August. He gushed about the first baseman's impact thus far and shared that there have been conversations about an extension. By all accounts, both sides had mutual interest.
Munetaka Murakami working hard to emerge from slump

Slumping slugger Munetaka Murakami has three hits in his last four games, including a three-run home run (No. 32) and his first triple in the majors. Still, the big rookie from Japan is batting only .108 (8-for-74) over his last 22 games, with three homers, 12 RBI and 15 walks.
Murakami says he expected major-league pitchers to quickly analyze him after he got off to a strong start this season that included 20 homers in his first 57 games — and before he suffered a hamstring strain May 29 that sent him to the injured list for six weeks.
