Grand jury finds insufficient evidence of criminal wrongdoing in Nolan Wells’ death
A grand jury unanimously found that there was no evidence to support bringing charges in the death of Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old who was found dead after a Fourth of July trip with friends off the coast of Mississippi.
The grand jury said in a report released Monday by the Jackson County District Attorneyâs office that it found no criminal or racially motivated wrongdoing, after it conducted a comprehensive investigation involving witness testimony, physical and digital evidence, as well as GPS and cellphone data.
The grand jury âfinds that the position of, the condition of, time of discovery, and location of Mr. Wellsâ body is consistent with drowning,â it said.

The grand jury reviewing the evidence in the death of Nolan Wells has found that, based on all the evidence they reviewed, no criminal charges are warranted at this point, according to the Jackson County Grand Jury Report released late Monday night.
The report says that the "position of, condition of, time of discovery, and location" of the 18-year-old's body off the coast of Mississippi this July is "consistent with drowning."
Wells vanished after he and friends had gone out celebrating the Fourth of July holiday on barrier islands off the Gulf Coast. His body was recovered in the waters off Horn Island two days later.
