Billionaire Tyler Perry rules out marriage over divorce risk
Tyler Perry told The Jennifer Hudson Show he will never marry, saying everyone he knows who did well and went broke did so through divorce.
Tyler Perry was asked on The Jennifer Hudson Show whether he would ever marry. He answered with one word.
He then explained why, and the reason was financial rather than romantic. "It's not the marriage that bothers me, it's the divorce," Perry said. "Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce. So I'm good just being free."
The position is a curious one for a man who built part of his career on the subject. Perry wrote and directed Why Did I Get Married? in 2007 and Why Did I Get Married Too? in 2010, and the latest instalment, Why Did I Get Married Again?, is streaming on Netflix now. He has spent nearly twenty years making films about what happens inside marriages while declining to enter one.

Actor, writer, director Tyler Perry to move to Puerto Rico
Tyler Perry, long rooted in Atlanta and synonymous with the entertainment empire he built there, says he is preparing for a dramatic shift in his life and work. Fresh off his 57th birthday, the filmmaker revealed that he plans to relocate to Puerto Rico, a move he describes as both intentional and overdue.
In a recent televised conversation with TODAY, Perry said the decision came as he began reassessing his priorities.
“Yes, I am officially — you’re the first to hear this — I am officially moving to Puerto Rico,” he said. “No, this is real.”
For Perry, the move is less about geography and more about pace. After decades of nonstop production — more than two dozen feature films, 17 television series, and a studio complex that reshaped Atlanta’s creative landscape — he says it’s time to slow down.
