Deputies escape injury after suspect’s car explodes during police pursuit in Gower
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A police chase ended with a car exploding behind a Gower restaurant on Saturday afternoon.
Officials said the incident started around 11:37 a.m. when Clinton County dispatchers got a call about a man who made threats about ‘suicide by cop.’ Deputies met with the person who called, who warned them that the suspect had a gun, homemade bombs, and wanted to force police to shoot him, authorities said.
The sheriff’s office has identified the suspect as Christopher Williams, 54, of Gower.
At 12:19 p.m., deputies found the suspect outside a home near Gower. Officials said he was holding a black backpack. When deputies ordered him to stop, he refused, got into a car, and drove away.
