Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Wants Yoshinobu Yamamoto To Be More Efficient
After a solid rookie season, Yoshinobu Yamamoto has put together another excellent showing in his second year with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The right-hander enters his start against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday with an 11-8 record, 2.90 ERA, 3.18 FIP, 1.07 WHIP and 10.1 strikeouts per nine in 139.2 innings pitched (25 games).
For as good as Yamamoto has been, he can still stand to improve in several areas. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts wants to see him be more aggressive in attacking the strike zone.
“I think Yoshi’s got to continue to get strike one,” Roberts answered when asked what Yamamoto needs to do in order to be dominant like Pedro Martinez and Tim Lincecum, two pitchers with similar frames.
Arizona Diamondbacks-Los Angeles Dodgers updates: Offense gets on the board
LOS ANGELES — The Diamondbacks pushed across a run against right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but they trail the Los Angeles Dodgers, 3-1, as play continued in the fifth inning on Sunday, Aug. 31.
Yamamoto started the game by retiring the first 10 batters he faced before Ketel Marte dropped down a bunt single with one out in the fourth inning. Corbin Carroll singled to center and Adrian Del Castillo added a run-scoring single to right to bring home the Diamondbacks’ first run of the game.
That cut the Diamondbacks’ deficit to 2-1, but the Dodgers got the run back in the bottom of the inning on Miguel Rojas’ RBI single off right-hander Brandon Pfaadt.
