Former UK student pleads guilty in connection with baby’s death
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A former University of Kentucky student has pleaded guilty in connection with her baby’s death.
Laken Snelling pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
Snelling was accused of hiding the birth and putting the baby’s body in a closet.
In court, Snelling admitted to “ending” her baby’s life “instead of helping him” and putting his body in a plastic bag.
Prosecutors recommended a 10-year sentence for manslaughter, one-year sentence for abuse of a corpse, one-year sentence for tampering with physical evidence and a 12-month sentence for concealing the birth of an infant.

Former University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges for killing her newborn son, whose lifeless body was found stuffed in a trash bag.
Snelling, now 22, was charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant, to which she pleaded not guilty in April.
But in court Friday morning, an emotional Snelling finally admitted to “ending” her baby’s life and copped to putting the infant in a plastic bag.
“I was under a lot of emotional stress and my baby came unexpectedly,” Snelling said while crying in court.
