‘People Love to Hate’ on Sydney Sweeney, but Noah Centineo Makes His Feelings Clear
Noah Centineo had nothing but praise for his Gundam costar Sydney Sweeney. The actor revealed that they had crossed paths while growing up in the industry and expressed his interest in working with her again while also addressing the online criticism directed at her.
During a conversation on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Centineo brought up Sweeney while discussing their upcoming military science fiction film, Gundam. He revealed that they wrapped the film about a week and a half ago before praising Sweeney's talent and personality. "Sydney's a force. I'm always impressed by Sydney. She's a smart lady. Yo, she's brilliant. Yeah," he said.

The live-action Gundam film has been in the works in some form or another since 2018. A director and cast have been announced, including high-profile names like Sydney Sweeney joining the project. Still, hard details on exactly what the adaptation of the legendary mech anime series will look like have been almost non-existent. Now one of the movie's stars is pulling back the curtain ever so slightly.
Talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz, Gundam star Noah Centineo revealed the movie is a "big action romance space movie." Centineo continued by describing Gundam as, "a non-Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet in space." That is a bit of a confusing statement but what I think Centineo means is that the film is about star-crossed lovers on the opposite sides of a generational conflict. That sounds like it could fit perfectly within established Mobile Suit Gundam lore, as the series often focuses on the war between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon in the Universal Century timeline.

Sydney Sweeney made a name for herself in grounded, if not provocative, streaming series. The release of HBO's Euphoria and the debut of Season 1 of The White Lotus introduced her to major audiences, as she played characters that ignited a lot of debate among viewers. Well, until now.
In March of last year, news emerged that Sweeney was set to lead a movie adaptation of the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam. After months of relative silence, it was revealed this past April that Gundam had finally entered production and production officially wrapped in July.
