Colts release unofficial depth chart for preseason Week 2 game vs. Atlanta Falcons

Head coach Shane Steichen's plan for the Colts' second preseason game will be similar to what things looked like last week against the New England Patriots, with one key difference.

The vast majority of Colts starters will not play against the Atlanta Falcons, Steichen said Sunday, with joint practices Wednesday and Thursday serving as game action for top-of-the-depth-chart guys. The main difference will be at quarterback, where Riley Leonard will start and play the entire first half while Anthony Richardson Sr. will tag in for the second half.

Last week against the Patriots, Richardson started and played the entire first half with Leonard playing the entire second half.

Projecting Colts 53-Man Roster After 2026 Offseason Program

We are less than two weeks away from the Colts needing to cut their roster from 90 to 53. After 11 camp practices and the preseason opener, it’s time for a projected 53-man roster:

INDIANAPOLIS – We are less than two weeks away from the Colts needing to cut their roster from 90 to 53.

This year’s 53-man roster cut is on August 30th, leaving 2 more training camp practices (joint practices with the Atlanta Falcons) and 2 more preseason games for further evaluations.

After 11 camp practices and the preseason opener, it’s time for a projected 53-man roster:

Bowen’s Analysis: Amidst all the off-season conversation about this position, I’ll go with 3 quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. For me, whatever trade return you might get on Richardson isn’t worth it at this point in the offseason.

Will Colts starters play in preseason? Shane Steichen weighs in

Will we see any of the Indianapolis Colts' starters during the preseason this year?

In the preseason opener against New England, the Colts' starters did not play. That will also be the case this week against Atlanta.

However, in the preseason finale, Shane Steichen is at least somewhat contemplating playing his starters.

"Most likely Game 3," Shane Steichen said on Sunday, via Colts.com. "Right now, Game 2, we're obviously going to get the two joints against Atlanta; those will be the game for those guys. And then I'll make a decision for Game 3."

With most teams taking part in joint practices, that has taken the place of preseason reps for many starters, as Steichen said.
