Wall Street closed lower on Monday as higher oil prices fueled concerns over inflation and interest rates. Moreover, earnings results were encouraging. The Nasdaq Composite, the S&P 500 and the Dow ended in negative territory.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) fell 0.1%, or 60.95 points, to close at 53,975.98. Fifteen components of the 30-stock index ended in negative territory, and 15 ended in the positive.
The S&P 500 lost 0.1% to end at 7,753.11. Out of the 11 sectors of the broad-market index, five ended in negative territory, while six were in positive territory. The Real Estate Select Sector SPDR (XLRE), the Utilities Select Sector SPDR (XLU), and the Information Technology Select Sector SPDR (XLK) fell 1.2%, 1.1%, and 1.1%, respectively, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR (XLE) rose 4.6%.
