Dodgers Place Brock Stewart On Injured List
The Dodgers placed reliever Brock Stewart on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder discomfort. Los Angeles selected left-hander Cole Irvin onto the big league roster to take his bullpen spot. Righty Chayce McDermott was designated for assignment to open a spot for Irvin on the 40-man roster.
Any shoulder injury for Stewart raises alarm given his injury history, which includes a debridement surgery that ended his 2025 season. However, manager Dave Roberts told reporters this placement is out of caution and not expected to require a significant absence (relayed by Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register). Jack Harris of The California Post reports that the Dodgers don’t plan to more aggressively pursue bullpen help on the trade front in response to this injury.
Dodgers Select Cole Irvin
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Cole Irvin and placed right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart on the injured list with right shoulder discomfort. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated right-handed pitcher Chayce McDermott for assignment.
Irvin, 32, made 20 starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 9-6 with a 3.58 ERA. This will be his first Major League assignment since 2024 with the Minnesota Twins. He has been in the Majors parts of six seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (2019-20), Athletics (2021-22), Baltimore Orioles (2023-24) and Twins, going 28-40 with a 4.54 ERA in 134 games (93 starts). He appeared in four Spring Training games for the Dodgers this season, allowing eight runs over eight innings. He signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers on February 4 and was originally drafted by the Phillies in the fifth round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Oregon.
