Spider-Man has a future beyond Tom Holland — and Marvel is already planning for it
Tom Holland is back in Spider-Man for a fourth solo film, but the actor has said Marvel is already looking ahead to the franchise's future.
Holland, whose new movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now in theaters, revealed that the studio has been working on a plan since 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home to eventually pass the role to another actor.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 30-year-old said: "There's a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished Spider-Man: No Way Home. It's laid out. It's gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision [of] the passing on of the baton, and I think it's really exciting. I know I get really excited when we have these meetings and chat about it. But that is the thing I want to do most in this character, for sure."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the verge of breaking an MCU earnings record previously set by Avengers: Endgame with its day one numbers, which could be higher than $70 million on a single Thursday. If it wasn’t clear before, it is now that Spider-Man is the single most important superhero Marvel has, and as such, the studio is going to figure out a way to maximize that further. That, it would seem, lead to the arrival of a second Spider-Man, without the disappearance of the other.

Tom Holland is swinging back into theaters this weekend as Peter Parker in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” but a plan is already being laid out for his replacement. The actor has been vocal in past interviews about wanting to be directly involved in passing the baton to his Spider-Man successor, but he revealed in a new interview on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that a plan is already taking shape behind the scenes.
“There’s a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,'” Holland said, revealing succession plans have been in the works for five years. “It’s laid out.
