Packers rookie QB Taylor Elgersma throws first NFL touchdown pass

One week after he had a touchdown pass negated by penalty, Green Bay Packers quarterback Taylor Elgersma — an undrafted rookie from Canada — threw the first touchdown pass of his NFL career during Saturday's preseason finale at Lambeau Field.

It won't count in regular season statistics, but Elgersma still has a touchdown pass at the NFL level. The score gave the Packers a 17-0 lead over the Seattle Seahawks.

Elgersma found rookie receiver Will Sheppard for a 3-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter on Saturday.

Elgersma threw a touchdown pass to tight end Ben Sims last week in Indianapolis, but the play was negated by a holding penalty. His touchdown pass on Saturday came on a staple red zone play for the Packers in which receivers run crossing routes to each side, creating coverage conflict and allowing both receivers to run away from coverage. Sheppard was wide open for Elgersma's touchdown pass.
