Security breach causes chaos, delays start of final Jay-Z concert at Yankee Stadium
THE BRONX (WABC) — There was chaos at Jay-Z's third and final Yankee Stadium concert after a security breach delayed the show.
Thousands of fans were seen outside the stadium waiting to get inside.
A police source tells Eyewitness News a large group broke through security, prompting a full lockdown of the stadium. For a while, no one was allowed in or out.
"We got here a little after 8, went to Gate 2, they bum rushed Gate 2. Bum rushed. People went past security, were not checked and got into the stadium. They closed down Gate 2, we went to Gate 4, same thing happened," said Rosalynn Glover, "We were at the suite section, they would not even let us in there. The people working at Gate 4 were laughing. They were taunting us and laughing, which I don't find funny, when we spend our hard-earned money to be here. I flew in here from Atlanta."
Jay-Z Concert at Yankee Stadium Is Delayed for Hours
The rapper apologized to fans when the show began after midnight on Monday, citing crowd safety issues.
Hundreds of ticket holders for a Jay-Z concert were stuck outside Yankee Stadium in New York for hours on Sunday night, waiting to be let in for a performance that was delayed several hours.
When the rapper eventually took the stage after midnight, he apologized. The doors to the stadium had been closed for concertgoers’ safety because some people had tried to rush the gates, he said.
“There’s 10,000 people outside,” he said, according to videos posted on social media. “I don’t want to start the music and people get trampled.”

Fans holding concert tickets report gate closures outside Jay-Z's final Yankee Stadium show
The News 12 newsroom received multiple calls Sunday evening from Jay-Z concertgoers who said security closed entrance gates outside Yankee Stadium, despite them holding valid tickets for the rapper's final performance of his three-night 30th anniversary concert series.
Large crowds surrounded the stadium ahead of the show as thousands of fans attempted to enter for the final night of what has been a record-setting weekend.
The final performance follows Saturday night's concert, which set the record for the highest-attended concert in Yankee Stadium history with 45,832 tickets sold.
The previous record had been set just one night earlier during Friday's performance, making it the second consecutive night Jay-Z broke the stadium's concert attendance record.
