Severe storms this evening into tonight

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — A tornado warning has been issued for Ellis County until 7:15 p.m.

A TORNADO WATCH is in effect until 10:00 PM across northern Oklahoma. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect until 11:00 PM for western Oklahoma.

Hot and dry conditions are expected this weekend, but it looks like we have one more impactful day of severe weather before that arrives.

Storms that went across Kansas earlier today have left outflow boundaries that are preventing the warm front in northern Oklahoma to lift north. With it now essentially stuck with a favorable wind profile in the atmosphere, it will be along this front that we'll have to watch for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center just recently upgraded parts of Oklahoma to an Enhanced Risk for severe weather. This 3 out of 5 risk is for up to 80 mph winds, up to baseball size hail, and a low risk of tornadoes. The tornado threat is one thing we'll especially have to watch as there are some indications that while the overall threat is low, some significant tornadoes could be possible if the conditions come together.
