Police identify eighth grader who drowned during field trip at High Meadow
GRANBY, Conn. (WFSB) – An eighth grade student from Springfield, MA died from drowning at a day camp in Granby, the camp confirmed.
Multiple Connecticut schools were visiting on field trips at the time.
Granby police said they received a call around 2:27 p.m. about a drowning at High Meadow, which is located at 311 North Granby Rd.
A Simsbury police officer who was working a private detail at the facility went to the pool area and started treating the boy.
Granby Ambulance then took the boy to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, according to Granby police.
A spokesperson for High Meadow confirmed that the student, identified as 14-year-old Emari Marshall-Woodard of Springfield, Massachusetts, died.
