Flood advisory issued in Columbia for Memorial Day afternoon
“Excessive rainfall” prompted several flood advisories and warnings from the National Weather Service of Columbia for Monday afternoon.
Minor flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas of central South Carolina is expected for Memorial Day afternoon, according to an advisory issued by the National Weather Service at 2:27 p.m.
Between 0.5-1 inch of rain fell when the advisory was issued, and about 1-1.5 more inches of rain is expected this afternoon. The advisory is in effect until 4:30 p.m.
Most flooding deaths happen in vehicles, so motorists shouldn’t drive through flooded areas, according to the advisory.
Locations around Columbia, including West Columbia, Cayce, Lexington and Irmo, will experience flooding, according to the advisory.
