Fire destroys band shell at Denver's City Park
DENVER — The band shell at Denver's City Park was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning, but the 40th anniversary season of City Park Jazz is set to continue.
According to a spokesman for Denver Fire, when firefighters arrived at the park around 2:40 a.m., they found the structure, which is used as a stage for City Park Jazz, engulfed in flames.
The band shell, which is set on Ferril Lake, has a walkway connecting it to the historic City Park Pavilion, which was completed in 1882. The pavilion, which is on the National Register of Historic Places and Colorado State Register of Historic Properties, was not damaged, according to Denver Fire.
