Chris Mack leaves College of Charleston to coach South Florida
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Chris Mack has stepped down as head men’s basketball coach at College of Charleston to accept the same position at the University of South Florida, the school announced.
Mack led the Cougars for two seasons, compiling a 45-20 overall record during his tenure. The Cougars last made the NCAA Tournament in 2024, never appearing in the postseason tournament during Mack's tenure.
“We are grateful for Chris and his leadership the past two seasons at the helm of our men’s basketball program. We wish him, Christi and their family nothing but the best on their next journey,” athletic director Matt Roberts said in a statement.

Former Xavier basketball head coach Chris Mack takes over at USF
Chris Mack has been named the new head coach at the University of South Florida, the school announced on Wednesday, March 25.
"(USF) Bulls basketball has incredible momentum, and we've found an outstanding coach and leader to elevate our program to the next level," USF CEO of Athletics Rob Higgins said in a statement.
Mack, 56, replaces Bryan Hodgson, who was just introduced as the new head coach at Providence after leading USF to American Conference regular-season and conference titles and the NCAA Tournament in his lone season.
Mack spent nine seasons as the head coach at Xavier from 2009-2018 and is the program's all-time leader in wins (215). He led the Musketeers to the NCAA Tournament eight times, including four Sweet 16 trips and an Elite Eight appearance in 2017.
