Charles Barkley rooting for Miami Ohio: 'Not their fault everyone in their conference sucks'
Charles Barkley and Dick Vitale were part of truTV's broadcast crew for the second game of Tuesday's First Four in the 2026 Men's NCAA Tournament.
Prior to tip-off of NC State vs. Texas, Barkley joined the studio crew that included Jalen Rose, Bruce Pearl and Jamal Mashburn.
Barkley was asked about his favorite for this year's March Madness, which devolved into a stream of consciousness.
"This is the Arizona ass-kicking Invitational, and we're accepting all challenges," Barkley said.
"Listen, Michigan has a great team. I love coach (Dusty) May, I think that (LJ Cason) injury might hurt them a little bit. I think the injuries are going to hurt Duke. Now you could have gone back and forth between UConn and Florida, who is at No. 1 seed.
Charles Barkley jokes with Bruce Pearl over Miami (OH) takes: 'There's some people looking for you'
Charles Barkley is in Dayton Tuesday night, calling a First Four game. Barkley is working alongside play-by-play man Brian Anderson and the legendary Dick Vitale. The NC State Wolfpack and Texas Longhorns are hoping to advance into the NCAA Tournament field. But for the rest of us at home, we get the treat of listening to the broadcast.
Before getting underway, Barkley talked with the truTV studio back in Atlanta. Eventually, Bruce Pearl was up to ask his fellow Auburn legend a question. And as per usual, Barkley had a joke ready to fire. He told Pearl working with him was not an option, mainly due to his recent takes over Miami (OH).

Auburn legend goes after Bruce Pearl's stance on this NCAA Tournament issue
Charles Barkley is never shy to speak his mind, so when it comes to the hottest topic concerning the NCAA Tournament and Selection Sunday this year – if Miami, Ohio, deserves to be in if the RedHawks after falling short in the MAC Tournament –, you know the Hall of Famer and longtime commentator has his opinion.
The Round Mound of Rebound’s view on the topic goes against that of another Auburn legend: Bruce Pearl.
“I disagree with Bruce Pearl,” Barkley said. “Bruce said if they don’t win the tournament, they shouldn’t get in.”
The former Auburn coach has caught plenty of flak for his comments concerning Travis Steele’s team’s place in the NCAA Tournament after they finished the regular season undefeated. Pearl has caught some strays from Miami athletic director David Sayler, who called him out for the “homerism” he showed toward Auburn, which is coached by Bruce’s son, Steven, and for dissing what the RedHawks have accomplished.
