Powerful Winds Damage Forkville Area

FORKVILLE, Ala. — The National Weather Service has confirmed straight-line winds — not a tornado — caused storm damage in Winston County Monday evening.

Survey teams determined winds reached up to 75 miles per hour near the intersection of Highway 195 and Little Crooked Road around 5:35 p.m.

The strongest damage was concentrated within a roughly 130-yard stretch, where several structures were impacted.

Michael Thrasher owns a furniture and woodworking business at the intersection, along with surrounding farm property. He said he didn’t initially realize the extent of the damage.

“We didn’t even know anything had happened other than just a storm had come up,” Thrasher said. “And when we come down here and looked, it just demolished everything.”
