MANHATTAN — Despite Kansas State basketball finishing its season this week at the Big 12 Tournament, most of the attention will be on the program's future as it pursues its next basketball coach.
The search, which started Feb. 15 after the school fired Jerome Tang for cause, could be nearing its final days, while it may wait to make an official announcement until after their target is done coaching in a potential NCAA Tournament appearance. More high-major jobs will open in the days ahead, while K-State was the first one to open.
Utah State's Jerrod Calhoun, Belmont's Casey Alexander and Saint Louis' Josh Schertz have been the top three names connected to the Wildcats' opening. A few others' names have consistently come up in the context of the job, making them wildcard options if the Wildcats don't land their top target.
