Severe storms with tornado risk Tuesday night into Wednesday | Weather Impact Alert

After a possibly record warm day, active weather with severe storms move into Indiana Tuesday night and Wednesday. The severe risk is considered low to medium overall, but a few storms could still become very strong at times with a chance for a tornado, gusty winds and hail.

Instead of one big line of storms, we expect multiple storm clusters. Our setup favors two main waves of thunderstorms, each with different threats and timing, depending on where you live in the state.
Tornadoes, hail, strong winds possible as severe weather returns Tuesday
The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of our area under a Level 3 risk for severe weather.
Our day starts off dry with some clouds overhead. Tuesday will also be very warm with highs in the upper 60s to near 70.

A cold front will push into our area late in the day. Some storms could develop ahead of the front as early as 5 p.m.
Chances for rain and storms will increase later in the evening, around 8 p.m. and later.
All risks are possible during this time, with primary concerns being tornado potential as well as large hail.

Indiana statewide tornado siren test set for Tuesday; St. Joseph, LaPorte counties will not participate
(WNDU) – Indiana will conduct a statewide tornado siren test on Tuesday morning as part of the state’s Severe Weather Preparedness Week.
The statewide drill is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. At that time, the National Weather Service will issue a test tornado warning alert, which will be distributed through most notification systems, including the statewide Emergency Alert System (EAS).
Residents in St. Joseph County will not hear sirens during Tuesday’s test. Officials said the county tests its sirens on the first Thursday of every month. Officials also said they do not want to confuse residents due to the possibility of severe weather later in the day Tuesday.
