Tornado warning issued in N.J. as strong thunderstorms hit region
UPDATE: The tornado warning expired at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after the rotation in the storm which prompted the warning moved offshore. The National Weather Service said no tornadoes were confirmed, and no significant storm damage was reported.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for parts of Atlantic and Ocean counties Wednesday night and is urging people in those areas to seek immediate shelter inside a sturdy building and to stay away from windows.
The warning was issued shortly before 11 p.m. and is effective until 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters said wind rotation — an indication of a possible tornado — was detected on radar in the area of Tuckerton and Atlantic City, prompting the tornado warning. But there were no immediate reports of any funnel clouds on the ground.

The National Weather Service said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located northeast of Atlantic City at 11:16 p.m. last night. The storm was moving northeast at 40 mph, the NWS said.
The warning was in effect from about 11:05-11:30 p.m. before NWS allowed it to expire. There were no reports of tornado damage and flood concerns later subsided.

Severe weather threatens parts of NJ; 60 mph wind gusts, hail possible
Wednesday brings more late-day storms to our unsettled week. And with those storms, we are once again keeping an eye on our chances for severe weather, including damaging wind, hail, and flooding.
A tornado warning has been issued for parts of Atlantic and Ocean counties in New Jersey until 11:30 p.m.
Hot and humid weather Wednesday afternoon into evening will aid in destabilizing the atmosphere and promote storm development. Highs in the upper 80s in New York City feel like the low to mid-90s during the hottest part of the day.
