Crockett vs. Talarico: How the Dems running for US Senate stack up on issues
Political races are often a study of contrasts between the candidates, but the 2026 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate is as much a study in similarities.
The two leading candidates, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Dallas and Austin state Rep. James Talarico, are unapologetic progressives. Both are hoping to become the first millennial to represent Texas in the upper chamber — Talarico is 36, Crockett is 44. Their legislative resume's are roughly the same length. Crockett served one term in the Texas House and two terms in Congress. Talarico is in his fourth term in the state House.

Who are the Democrats running for US Senate in Texas?
AUSTIN, Texas – Despite Democrats not winning a statewide office in Texas since 1994, a highly competitive race is forming for who will represent the party in November's U.S. Senate election.
Early voting for the March 3 primary election begins Tuesday and U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett and state Rep. James Talarico are front-runners to determine who will challenge the winner on the Republican side. Businessman Ahmad Hassan will join them on the ballot.
This election cycle has many Democrats feeling they can turn the Senate seat blue. The seat is currently held by Sen. John Cornyn, who finds himself in a fierce battle for the Republican nomination against Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt.

Texas Senate primary heats up: Talarico launches tour, Cornyn touts Trump ties
As early voting for the Super Tuesday primary gets underway, state Rep. James Talarico is taking his campaign on the road.
Talarico, D-Austin, announced his "Take Back Texas Tour," a 12-city barnstorm leading up to Election Day, in a news release Monday, Feb. 16.
“This is a grassroots movement to take power back for working people in a system rigged by billionaire mega-donors and corrupt politicians – because the real fight in this country is not left vs right, it’s top vs bottom,” said Talarico. “We’re hitting the road – going everywhere and talking to everyone. We’re not writing off any voter or any community. That’s the only way to take back Texas.”
