Three Players Placed On Unconditional Waivers
Three players from around the league won’t be back with their current clubs after the Olympic break. The Panthers’ Ryan McAllister, the Penguins’ Filip Larsson, and the Blues’ Samuel Johannesson were placed on unconditional waivers today for the purposes of contract terminations, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports.
McAllister, 24, will become an unrestricted free agent midway through a trying season. The Ontario native took a rare development path, inking his entry-level contract with Florida as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after just one season in college at Western Michigan. He’d erupted for 49 points in 39 games as a freshman, so making the jump to the pros wasn’t completely out of the blue.
Penguins waive goaltender Filip Larsson for contract termination
The Pittsburgh Penguins placed goaltender Filip Larsson on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a contract termination on Tuesday.
Should no other team claim him by 2 p.m. Wednesday, he will be free to sign elsewhere.
Currently assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL), Larsson is in the final year of a two-year two-way contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000.
After a strong 2024-25 season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, the 27-year-old Larsson has played relatively little during the ongoing campaign as he has been stuck behind promising goaltending prospects Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov.
Limited to nine games this season, Larsson has a 3-2-1 record, a 3.51 goals-against average and an .876 save percentage.

Ryan McAllister: Having contract terminated
McAllister was placed on waivers by the Panthers on Tuesday for the purpose of having his contract terminated, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
McAllister has never appeared in an NHL game. The 24-year-old center posted two goals, seven points, eight PIM and a minus-5 rating over 15 outings with AHL Charlotte before landing on waivers.
