School District of Philadelphia and city's archdiocesan schools to operate virtually on Wednesday
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The School District of Philadelphia will operate virtually on Wednesday as the city works to clean up from the major winter storm.
All after-school activities, including all athletic programs and professional development sessions scheduled for Wednesday are canceled.
"The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families is our top priority," the district said in a statement."The recent snowstorm in the greater Philadelphia region dropped significant snow and ice, which has left slick or covered roads. It continues to impact drivers and commuters."
The archdiocesan high schools and parochial elementary schools will also be virtual.

Philadelphia schools will once again have virtual learning for students as the region continues to recover from Sunday's massive winter storm.
The School District of Philadelphia announced that all schools and Early Childhood Centers will operate virtually on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026.
"All after-school activities, including all athletic programs and professional development sessions scheduled for Wednesday are canceled," a school district spokesperson wrote. "All staff designated as essential personnel during inclement weather will be contacted by their supervisor with reporting instructions, and will be compensated according to the provisions of their collective bargaining agreements, if applicable."
Wednesday will be the third day in a row that Philadelphia schools will close and the second day in a row of virtual learning after the city saw the highest amount of snow in a decade on Sunday.
