If Chiefs get new OC, Patrick Mahomes wants him to "bring new ideas every single day"

Nothing about the Chiefs’ 2025 season seemed to go right, particularly with quarterback Patrick Mahomes tearing his ACL in December.

But with the club out of the postseason for the first time since 2014 — let alone the first time in the Mahomes era — Kansas City will have a chance to reset in some different ways this offseason.

One of those factors appears likely to be the team’s offensive coordinator. Matt Nagy, who has held the role since 2023, is a popular choice on the head coach interview circuit in this cycle. But even if Nagy doesn’t land a top job, he is reportedly looking at becoming a play-calling offensive coordinator for another team.

Eric Bieniemy could replace Matt Nagy again if Chiefs make bold move

The Chicago Bears' offseason officially began the moment that Harrison Mevis of the Los Angeles Rams kicked a game-winning field goal at Soldier Field in overtime to edge the home team in a divisional-round thriller. Just like that, the players and coaches were finished with the 2025 season, capping a mostly successful first season for head coach Ben Johnson.

While the Bears lost, they're carrying plenty of momentum into an offseason in which there will only be excitement about the franchise's chances in 2026. However, some players won't be back and some coaches will move on. One name that could surface in coaching rumors soon is Eric Bieniemy.

Chiefs News 1/14: Alex Smith shares opinion on the next Chiefs’ OC

The former Kansas City quarterback shares some insight on the coaching search.

Former Chiefs QB Alex Smith Reveals Who Andy Reid Could Hire As New OC To Replace Matt Nagy | Pro Football Network

The Chiefs will be searching for a new offensive coordinator this offseason, and former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith shared his thoughts on who the team might target. Smith joined Kay Adams on “Up & Adams” to discuss the Chiefs’ next steps.

“Oh, I wouldn’t be shocked if they bring (Mike) Kafka back… Andy (Reid) just rarely brings somebody outside of his circle,” Smith said.

The Chiefs’ offense appeared to grow stale this past season, and a new voice could help rejuvenate the unit. Mike Kafka served as the New York Giants’ interim head coach this season and has a long-standing relationship with Reid. Kafka was the Chiefs’ quarterbacks coach from 2018 to 2021 and also played quarterback under Reid in 2011 with the Philadelphia Eagles.
