Pop-Tarts Bowl: Focus is on No. 12 BYU’s depleted offense on eve of showdown with No. 22 Georgia Tech
ORLANDO, Fla. — The football game itself often becomes sort of an afterthought at bowls, especially now that the College Football Playoff games have taken over the hearts and minds of most fans, coaches of the teams involved are continually asked about other openings, and players have to weigh whether or not playing in what amounts to exhibitions are good for their futures.
That doesn’t appear to be the case leading up to Saturday’s Pop-Tarts Bowl here at Camping World Stadium in Orlando (1:30 p.m. MST, ABC) as BYU coach Kalani Sitake and Georgia Tech coach Brent Key met with reporters one last time Friday morning and spoke at length about how much a win would mean to their programs.
BYU vs Georgia Tech score, live updates: Start time, TV channel for Pop-Tarts Bowl
Chaos and good football are in store with the 2025 Pop-Tarts Bowl featuring No. 13 Brigham Young and No. 22 Georgia Tech.
The Cougars and Yellow Jackets fell just short of the ultimate goal of reaching the College Football Playoff, with BYU losing in the Big 12 title game and finishing just outside the at-large selection and Georgia Tech not making the ACC Championship game. Despite of that, both teams are playing in a bowl game, and their matchup makes for one of the most exciting contests.
Then there's the game itself. With its wild mascots, there may be no bowl game more fun than the Pop-Tarts Bowl. The winner not only will get a one-of-a-kind Pop-Tarts toaster bowl trophy, but also the illustrious honor of getting to eat a life-size, edible Pop-Tart mascot. Mixing great football with an entertaining spectacle should make for one of the most memorable bowl games.

BYU will be missing the Big 12’s top offensive player in the Pop-Tarts Bowl
(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) BYU Cougars running back LJ Martin (4) will miss his team's bowl game after undergoing surgery.
BYU running back LJ Martin will not play in the Pop-Tarts Bowl this weekend as he recovers from surgery.
The junior was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 1,305 yards rushing. Martin might have racked up even more yards had he not suffered a shoulder injury against Iowa State in late October.
“There was a small window for him to get the surgery done,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said of Martin missing the Cougars’ bowl game. “His decision is going to be whether he comes back for his senior year or whether he goes to the NFL. … If he would’ve waited and prolonged [surgery] too long, it wouldn’t have been beneficial for him either way.”
