Threats prompt school cancellation in Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan district

Classes at Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan high schools are canceled Tuesday after the district reported possible threats. Additionally, students at Burnsville High School are in a “hold,” also due to threats.

A note to families sent by the district — which came after some kids were already on buses or at school — states, “District 196 has received notification of potential online threats toward 196 High Schools today.”

In coordination with law enforcement and “out of an abundance of caution,” the district says it decided to close the high schools for the day.

The district’s note said students who’d already arrived at school will be returned home by buses.

ROSEMOUNT, Minn. — A large south metro school district says all its high schools will be closed Tuesday following a threat. 

In a message posted on social media and sent home to families in Public School District 196, school officials say Apple Valley, Eastview, Rosemount and Eagan High Schools, plus the Area Learning Center and School of Environmental Studies will be closed due to the threat. 

"We are acting with safety as our first priority to cancel schools today to allow law enforcement to fully investigate this situation," the message to families read. 

All elementary and middle schools will still hold classes today, district officials said, and students who are already at school Tuesday morning are being dismissed in "an orderly fashion" and returned home on buses.
